The Alphabetical Fruit Naming Convention

Ever found yourself stuck choosing a name for a server? Or needing to name a project? Or being stumped coming up with dummy names for test databases? Hark, your naming woes will soon be over, for I've created... the alphabetical fruit naming convention! (Also known as a naming scheme.) Hurrah!

What is it good for?

It's good for naming servers, VMs, projects, test data, pets, etc. (OK, not that last one). Some people use names of famous people, or planets, or trees. But I like fruits, on account of their being so delicious!

Next time you need a name, start with 'apple', then 'banana', etc. The very server that delivered this web page is named 'apple', for example (my first VPS).

Fruit is extensible

This is, of course, not the be all and end all of naming conventions. There are many fine fruits that didn't make the list, and several lesser known ones that did (because of their uncommon first letters). Feel free to leave out the fruits you've never heard of, add your own, or even (gasp) include vegetables!

If you run out of names, it's always possible to start over at 'a' with different fruits (like apricot). Enjoy!
